Momma took me on a walk yesterday around 6pm, instead of going to the dog park. At one point when she handed me a treat as I was heeling, there was a bee on my upper lip. It stung me. I stopped to paw it it. The treat and the bee fell to the ground.
Momma stepped on the bee, looked at my face and tried giving me the treat. I didn't want it. I then was acting really unruly. I wouldn't listen to Momma. We went a few more houses and I did my business.
Then Momma got tired of my behavior and picked me up to carry me. Then, she noticed the left side of my lip seemed bigger than usual. She brought me home to ask Daddy what he thought.
Daddy could see the stinger, but wasn't able to get it out. Plus, my lip was getting bigger by the minute. We got into the car and went to the vet. I used to think they were evil for sticking things in me and stealing my body parts, but now I love them. When I arrived at the vet, I headed straight to the desk for help. I knew they would help me (I didn't even submissive pee on the table this time). You see, by now, my face was so swollen, I could barely see out of my left eye!
Anyway, they gave me a shot of antihistamine and a shot of a pain reliever. Then they told my parents to get some antihistamines to give to me for a few days (and to have on hand, if this happens again).
Obviously, Momma didn't take the time to take a photo of how bad my face looked before I got treated. So here's the photo she did take when we got home. Most of the swelling was gone by then, so she made an approximation in Photoshop. It's nowhere near what I was really like because my eye is open!
My parents say thank goodness for Banfield's Wellness Program (they don't pay for office visits). And Momma now carries grape flavored chewable antihistamine for children with her.
